There are two main types of inkjet printer ink cartridges – ones with a print head and ones without. Epson ink cartridges such as Epson DX4450 ink cartridges have no print head and this makes them cheap to manufacture and therefore the price of compatible ink cartridges very cheap. HP ink cartridges as well as Lexmark, Dell and others use cartridges which have the print head integrated into them and because the print head is an difficult and expensive component to manufacture this means that third party companies aren’t able to produce compatible and offer them any cheaper then the OEM products, this means they have to remanufacture the OEM products and re-brand them as their own. The disadvantage of this is that they are generally not as cheap as compatible Epson ink cartridges. Once advantage they do have over Epson ink cartridges however is that they are kind to the environment because instead of going to landfill where they take hundreds of years to bio degrade they are reused and this saves thousands of tons of plastic and other materials from landfill every year. Because compatible Epson ink cartridges are brand now manufactured from new materials they are less kind to the environment as they don’t save any Epson OEM cartridges from going to landfill and simple add to the amount of environmentally unfriendly materials going o landfill.
